Sportspersons, dancers and models have been known to have got insurance for their bodies. We have had soccer star and heartthrob David Beckham reportedly get a $70 million worth policy for his legs and feet. Then there is Michael ‘Lord of the Dance’ Flately who got his legs insured for $39 million. Even Heidi Klum went ahead and made her sexy legs financially protected under a unique $2.2 million insurance policy. And now it seems to be Fernando Alonso’s turn but for slightly unheard of reason.

The latest buzz from the F1 circuit tell us that the two time world champion has a taken out a $14 million policy on his thumbs. Apparently, Alonso’s latest purchase of some serious wheels for on-road use is believed to be the reason.

Santander is the firm sponsoring this insurance. These are the same guys who backed him up at McLaren and has been following him ever since. From what we are told, Alonso’s thumbs have a significance that goes beyond his driving skills. They have become a symbol of his monopoly in the sport. Ooh la la!
